About

About this trek

About Har Ki Dun Trek

Har Ki Dun, which translates to "Valley of Gods" in the local Garhwali dialect, is one of Uttarakhand's most enchanting high-altitude treks. Nestled in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuaryin Uttarkashi district, this cradle-shaped valley sits at 3,566 metres and is flanked by thetowering Swargarohini massif, Bandarpoonch, and the Black Peak.
Unlike many Himalayan treks that demand high fitness levels, Har Ki Dun is accessible tofirst-time trekkers and families. The trail winds gently through dense oak and rhododendronforests, crosses the glacial Supin River, and passes through ancient villages where time seemsto have stood still for centuries.

What Makes Har Ki Dun Special

The Osla village on the trail is over 700 years old. Its traditional wooden houses with carvedfacades follow the Kath-Kuni architecture style unique to Uttarakhand. Villagers here stillfollow ancient customs and speak a dialect distinct from standard Garhwali. Walking throughOsla is like stepping into a living museum.
The Jaundhar Glacier viewpoint, accessible on the exploration day from base camp, offers oneof the finest glacier views in the western Himalayas without requiring any technical climbing.

Flora, Fauna & Landscape

The Govind Wildlife Sanctuary surrounding the trek is home to snow leopards, bharal (blue sheep),monal pheasant (Uttarakhand's state bird), and Himalayan black bears. While sightings are rare, bird watching along the trail is exceptional.
The meadows (bugyals) burst with wildflowers in May-June — Brahmakamal, Himalayan blue poppy, and dozens of alpine species create a natural carpet visible from the trail.
